A quandary

So Druey's birthday is two days before mine. Do you think I can think of a single thing that 1. He would want and 2. I can afford.
I have been selling extra film that I don't need to fund other projects but it's $20 here and $20 there so not really birthday present buying material. :-(
I really dunno. Maybe he will accept a raincheck? I am usually so organized but I am being good and paying my credit cards.

I have not blogged for the past few days as I really had nothing to say. I write a lot in my diary but nothing that I could write here, mostly technical stuff about cameras or film.

Life has not really returned to normal.I feel disconnected or remote from most people. Two exceptions. Maybe it's just the stess of the banking processes that don't process deposits for 5 days. I was so behind all due to that. It's crap.

Tim has been entraining me with finding odd little things on eBay that we talk about. The age whether the seller is being truthful ways of telling the age etc, etc. One guy listed a camera a rare but there are hundreds of them around, mind you, it was a very nice example. I aged it as 1937-1940 model but it's not rare and he was using the excuse that "I dont know how to test it." as a way of not telling snout the shutter or bellows. :-(
My opinion, if you have the money, knock yourself out but too many unknowns for me to say it's a bargain. :-) lol strange people that we are.

Found that I had a great uncle buried at Fromeles.. A new excuse to visit France. :-)

Well that's it really. I have been wading through This extensive site on lost films.... hours of interesting things.

as I have been asked the question...

In relation to my modifying of a 120 spool to fit a 620 box brownie (See film blog) I have been asked if it works accurately (well as accuratley as an 1903-1960 camera will work)
Here is the answer.

RE - Franken spool

As the space for the exposure is the same in all Box brownies and the numbers are on the film itsself.
There is no guess work as the numbers line up correctly in the red window and the photos work fine.

Trust me, it works. Try to have the same spool top and bottom (Or left and right is you have a bakerlite one) and it will work but that doesn't really matter.

If you are tempted but the cheapeness of 220 film, I would say don't do it unless you have a 120/620 backing paper and are willing to cut a length to the backing paper size (In the dark) then sticking it to the film.. aarghh too hard and may not work as 220 film in thinner that 120/620. There is no chance of using it without any backing paper as I have said the film is thinner and will not take up in the same nuber of rolls of the winder.

Now the back of the camera (In a box brownie) has a number it will say 116 or A620 or some such thing.

This is the FILM SIZE not the model number.
To the guy who tells me he uses 120 and it doesn't work, that is because you are using a 2-A which uses 116 film. This is a much BIGGER format to 120 and thats why the numbers don't line up. Telling me you bought 120 in the 1960s is not going to change the fact that your camera is 116 format not 120. PLease buy a 116 and try that all will become clear.
(Also why ask a question and arguye with the answer? (You could google the same result)

ANY questions don't heistate to ask.
I have lots film is you don't wanna do it yourself. :-)

Hmm so I reached the final straw

A shame as I did really enjoy his company in real life, he is warm and funny. A welcoming host ready with coffee but his online persona is nasty, whiney & plain rude. Jekell and Hyde? I kept up the online follow due to my liking of the real man. But a personal attack online was the final straw.
I dared to Unfollow. People have threatened but never done it. Today I did it.

So now I see of course he never liked me. True friends wait and see if you get over it. True friends see of you are ok. I got neither. I get retaliation and more hurt.

Nice

Least I know. Fair weather friends I can do without.

Being on a roll, I gave my best friend a serve. They needed a kick up the bum too. I got a different reaction. Still friends and Still cool. Sometimes you need a reminder that others are around.

Two differing reactions from similar incidents.

Shows where I stand eh??

Well as I said least I know.
And one less degree of separation.

Total perspective votex.

Night Shift

After a confusing weekend on day work then arvo, I have returned to my routine of night shift. This, of course makes me a very boring person.. But hey, I am comfortable in my rut. I do have Friday and Saturday off but no too fussed. As it is a stupid public holiday weekend I hope to work on of these days, we shall see. I have got sunday and monday so can't complain.

An iPod stand arrive today. I am very happy with it. I was annoyed it took a month to arrive but it's here now.. Excellent for time lapse and HDR shooting.

Old film
Also In the mail were two old 620 films. I was going to use them but in the advent of my solution to my 620 problem, (see my film blog)I think I will offer them to the guy in Broken hill. They are right up his alley.

Been Busy But Not Busy

Monday and Tuesday were thankfully quiet for me. Tuesday at work made the papers and of course everyone is an expert. :-/
Fabian basically took the AE-1 especially when a 50mm lens appeared in the mail. He shot the rest of the roll of film in the camera and asked me to put a new roll in. I also lost my Leningrad2 light meter... A well he learnt how to use it and so it was worth it.
Wednesday was a wash out, we were supposed to be meeting friends and his kids but he either forgot or just didn't care. Either way Fabian was left without a trip and was subjected to another day with me. He continuedmwith his photography and played with my PS3.
Thursday saw us going to River Island, with Drue coming with us. We finally got away when Davjd woke up and packed the car.
Arrival at Mittagong and we saw a sign for a reptile demonstration. Cool so we stopped to watch this guy. He was cool. A good educator, he kept the kids' attention for the whole time. Not one small face turned away from his show.

Anyway after his excellent Demonstration, we gathered supplies and headed to River Island. Fabian vanished to play pool and the boys got to fixing the mounts for the solar panels. By late afternoon/ early evening Fabian & I were by the pool. There was another set of boys the same age as Fabian but they had gone to dinner. Col came out and told my child off although it was not him. My child was sitting quietly. The other boys were the ones upsetting the locals. Grrr I set Col straight and Fabian was allowed to stay. It's pretty poor that the kids have no pool as their pool is broken. The big pool is too cold to swim in 11 months of the year as they refuse to heat it. It irritates as they spend thousands fixing the barn which is vacant most of the year and didn't need fixing, but refuse to put solar on to host the pool. :-/ it's becoming very un child friendly. I fully understand in peak times but there is NO ONE here in winter geez.

Fabian stayed were he was.

In the am, I took Fabian up to the pool in Kid's time fully willing to kick any adults put as they had done to the kids last night. Fair is fair. Luckily only the father of the boys were there so I stayed for a bit then left Fabian ti play with his kids. He was happy to babysit.

We headed off around 1500, the Picton mail was disappointing, and then home. We only had a minute before heading off to drop Fabian back home as then off to the herp meeting.

The BBQ was as a success. :-) yay !! As I had been vocal in getting it set up before the meeting. David did his bit and bought 4 sandwiches for himself and 1 for me (I only wanted 1)

Rhonda had three bluesy for sale and a family of buyers turned up. They chose the one I was playing with (of course) and at the last minute chose a new one

Grump. Anyway I know David has always wanted a Bluetongue. I like them too but found beardies need too much feeding. The bluetoungue likes the same fruit as I do and with the addition of mince or cat food, will be a better fit into our household.
And Rhonda made him an offer he found it hard to walk away from. :-)

So we got Optimus Prime. Why ? Cause his neck marking looks like the transformers symbol. Now to research blueys.

Work was confusing as I had totally forgotten a swap that I did with Ahmed. Oops!!

Skin Flicks: The Mouth of Hell

Skin Flicks: The Mouth of Hell

This is the most astounding thing I have ever seen. I agree with this blogger's points too but to see such a thing! Wow. Just wow.

Can't rememebr what I am up to blog wise, I have been a bit outta the loop socially and time-wise.
I started working in a paper Christchurch cathedral. It took 7 hours to get it to pre stick stage.. And I htink it has 5 hours to go. OF course my paper is not the correct weight so my catherdral is a little off kilter but the building is unmistakable. (If you know churches)

7hrs work. Not finished and not glued

Work was semi busy due to re arrangement of Liverpool and the taking over of Enfield. But thats OK I LIKE busy.
STraight after work, I dropped in at Inara's and she had coffee.. Hmmm as it was a cold morning, I happily accepted it.
I was ropeable that I missed the towing of the Ex-HMAS Adelaide out of Sydney. I have been waiting for a year and she picked the day I had to be elsewhere. Under a police escort too!! Very sad making.

SO no final photos for me. BUT there are some great photos in the Manly Daily.

been a while

and it not that I have done nothing.. well actually I have done nothing. But been busy doing it. :-)
Night shift has settled into my favourite  rhythm and I have been happy to go and work for once. Had constant stream of traffic and an ops controller I get along with so happy nights for me.
Days have been sleeping in, I find I only sleep on night shift, Day shift and Arvos mean less hours sleep so more fatiguing.

I wrote a tutorial on Zone focusing, I find writing these mini essays gets the ideas into my head and I hope it helps others. Maybe Lomography.com will publish it?? They certainly didn't like the film ID one. :-(

Waratah At Sydenham

Saw the Waratah twice this week. LOL and hence tried to use it as a subject for my tilt shift practise. Its not easy getting the toy effect. Troy did it well with camera genius or something but damned if I could but I think I am getting it...

Bye bye Waratah
Playing with tiltgen -gundagai NSW
Still trying to get tiltshift right-Port Augusta SA

Tomorrow night is a double back.. SO I have to find a sleeping spot.. :-( I hate double back but there is no way to avoid it... :-(

Same old same old

No interesting mail. I over slept today getting up around 1600. Struggling to get home as the timetable is retarded doesn't help.
I was lucky that Brian agreed to drop me at Wolli Creek. No one has been able to explain why the old factory workers train that connects with the up bankstown at 0530 doesn't stop at Wolli Creek. I have heard them grumble about being late for work. The guys in town are arsehats. No reason to make the down Cronulla a skip stop and there is enough lee way in the timetable to let it stop at Wolli without affecting the rest of the run. It's a mystery that no one is willing to fix.
Makes a huge difference to me. My trains are hourly so missing the connection after night shift dooms me to an hour late home. I only wish managers do night shift and catch the damned train.

Sigh

Massive disruption due to an assault on the south. Poor colleague regretted his Decision to come in as it was an overtime shift. It was sorted soon enough.

Hmm can't think on anything else.
Tonight is my last night shift then on to the dreaded morning shift
